The Noisy Silence of the Markets

,

Investors know a lot of things to measure before they invest in a startup. They also have the business acumen to make the perfect decision. But do they always sense the calm before the storm?

What is the calm before the storm?

Angel investors have to give money to someone who cannot show them real production metrics. They see the idea and a small team. If they think the idea is good and the team’s ambitions are even better, they become the first investors. If they are right, the startup makes a big storm in a niche. But how do you predict that storm? You know, you can predict the storm by the silence. Where is the silence? OK. Every smile is just a simile. In our case, the silence is noisy. But where can we hear the noise? At the market.

People are talking about…

Every start-up begins with a problem. In most and best cases, it is the problem of the founders. But is it a strong problem? Is it intense? Is it painful? Are there a lot of people who feel this pain? Does this pain cry out for a solution? If so, people are talking about it. If you find people saying sentences like the following, then you might find the noisy silence.

Why can’t this toll do this and that?

Why does it work so slowly?

Why does it go so fast?

Why is it so complicated?

Why does it ask so many questions?

Can we not make it a bit better?

Can’t it be seen better?

If you hear such sentences often, you are right to say that the crowd needs change. But how can you be sure that this is the case and that the crowing is great?

Where can you find this complaining crowd?

These days you can find people’s problems on social media and in Google searches. There are also good surveys. There are many tools to test the size of your market. If you are interested, leave a comment and I will write about it in 14 days.
